LOW IN THE LAKES

 

This is the first and presently only site to be dedicated to military low flying in the area known as LFA17 (of which there are 20 nationwide) and that has been both produced and maintained by a keen aviation enthusiast.

 

LAKES GLIDING CLUB

 

Based on the North End of Walney Island the Lakes Gliding Club caters for all flyers. The airfield is a former wartime RAF station and has been the Lakes' base for 43 years. It is a good year round training site for gliding. The site is owned by BAE SYSTEMS who operate 2 Beechcraft King-airs there during the week. Other than a few private light aircraft the club has the airfield to themselves most if not all weekends.

RAF MILLOM MUSEUM

 

Official web-site of the museum. It contains pictures of some exhibits and staff, visitor information, an index of local RAF personnel and quite a comprehensive links page. The site also contains archives of Royal New Zealand Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force who had local accidents in Cumbria.

A site with a mission of collecting, document, preserve, exhibit and encourage access to the surviving material evidence and associated information of the men and women who participated in the war in whatever capacity whether military, civilian or conscientious objector and therefore not really Walney related, but it does give an insight in to 'Warrent Officer Ernie Reynolds life and his time at Number 10 AGS (Air Gunnery School) Walney Island.
